Performance Camshafts - Small Triumph 4 Cylinder

Performance Camshafts - Small Triumph 4 Cylinder

Listed on this page is a range of performance profiles for the four cylinder engines, we have listed the Duration of the profile and a basic recommendation if this is used with the text section a suitable profile can be obtained. Remember small cc = narrower power band from the same profile.

All camshafts listed with the suffix 'N' are new, made from chill cast iron, eliminating problems resulting from regrinding worn old camshafts.

New cam followers should be fitted when replacing the camshaft. You will also need Cam Lube (KEN2) and a camshaft timing disc (TT2929).

Journal Diameter
On these 4 cylinder models there were two types of cams fitted

Small for engines with replaceable bearing fitted to cylinder block, originally fitted to TC engines, 1147-1286cc pre 1969.

Large for all other models, where cam runs in cylinder block. Bearings can always be removed for this range to be used on early models.

Standard ‘TC’ (twin carb) engines built before 1969 were always of a ‘small’ journal diameter as they used ‘cam bearings’ fitted to cylinder block. All ‘SC’ engines and 1970 on models were fitted without ‘bearings’ and with a ‘large’ diameter cam journal. Both types can be interchanged as long as the removable bearings are corrected to suit. It is essential for this sizing to be known when ordering any camshaft for early engines, as the fitment of bearings can be varied.

See bottom of page for more information and specifications. For individual camshaft info, please click on the part number below you wish to find out more about.

1300cc Models
As this engine is a low torque but higher revving unit the camshaft profiles must reflect this need and also the power range quoted in the table at the bottom of this page will tend to err on the high side due to the lower capacity.

1500cc Models
For this range the torque and mid-range power is a more important factor, especially for a ‘road’ type car, also the capacity will tend to allow more power at lower rpm.
