Cylinder Heads - Gas Flowed

Our range of gas flowed heads are available to suit all needs. On some heads the work is carried out to the customer's own unit, the most popular heads may be available on an exchange basis. All heads are supplied with bronze-alloy valve guides and valve seats suitable for use with unleaded petrol unless requested otherwise. Please advise us of the engine capacity and any planned improvements/changes at the time of ordering.


All our modified MGB heads are of the 18V type and only available in exchange for an old serviceable unit. For earlier engines, 18G to 18GG, please contact your nearest Moss branch concerning possible modifications required when fitting an 18V cylinder head.


MGB in-line and offset rocker feeds
The two types of 18V cylinder head are identified by the position of the oil feed hole under the fourth rocker pedestal. Early 18V heads had a hole in-line with the two studs securing the pedestal, later heads had an offset hole.


While the modification is assumed to have taken place around the introduction of the rubber bumper cars, factory rebuilt 18V engines whether chrome or rubber bumper type are supplied with either head and there is no documented engine number change point between the two.


Stage II.
Fast road heads include gas flowed ports and reshaped combustion chambers. New reshaped standard valves are fitted with new guides and uprated valve springs.


Stage III.
fast road/sport heads have further modifications to the ports and chambers. Large inlet valves are fitted with new guides, uprated valve springs and alloy valve caps.


Stage IV.
Race heads are competition based heads with extensive modifications to ports, valve seats and chambers. New large inlet and exhaust valves with Moss ST valve springs and alloy caps. Not available with lead free valve seats. Work is carried out to customers own head, we will need full details of your engine to achieve the optimum compression ratio.
