The Jaguar XJ-S was introduced as a luxury grand tourer and was in production between 1976-1996. The XJ-S had some pretty big boots to fill as its predecessor was the almighty Jaguar E-Type! It was based on the XJ saloon. Initially only available as a coupe. 1985 saw the introduction of a targa convertible, with a full convertible arriving in 1988, all known as the Jaguar XJ-S. In May 1991, the XJ-S was renamed XJS with a revision to the line up and body lines, namely the rear windows appeared larger. Again, this revised version, produced from 1992-1996, was available as a coupe, 2-seat convertible and 2+2 convertible.

The XJS was known as a very competent grand tourer and far more aerodynamic than the E-type. By April 1996, 115,413 XJS models had been produced during a 21 year production life. The XJS was finally replaced by the arrival of the XK8.
